Permanent Resident Cards
On June 28, 2002, Citizenship and Immigration Canada started issuing Permanent Resident Cards (PR Card) to newly arrived Permanent
Residents of Canada and existing Permanent Residents of Canada. This document replaced the paper document called the IMM 1000 Record of Landing. The PR
Card is a small plastic document that can fit into your purse.
The PR Card has to be shown when a Permanent Resident is re-entering Canada via commercial carrier (plane, bus, train or boat).
Permanent Residents of Canada must have a valid PR Card in order to re-enter Canada.
The PR Card has the personal information of the card holder on it. This information can be accessed by authorized Canadian immigration officials.
In addition, on the PR Card, there is an expiration date at the front. Permanent Residents have to submit an application to renew their card well in advance
of the expiration date. Citizenship and Immigration Canada recommends that you submit a renewal application before you current PR card expires.
Renewal of Permanent Resident Card: VERY IMPORTANT
The time has arrived for many Permanent Residents to renew their PR Card. It is important that Permanent Residents apply to renew their PR Card well
in advance of the expiration date. Olalere Law Office will be glad to provide guidance on your renewal application.
Failure to renew will cause more than a headache. It may result in commercial carriers refusing you boarding to Canada.
Loss of Permanent Resident Status
Have you just found out that you may have lost your permanent residence status because you did not meet the residency requirements under the
immigration law? You are not alone.
Many Permanent Residents of Canada are finding out, for the first time, at Canadian Port of Entry that they have not met their residency obligations.
As a result, an immigration officer can write an inadmissibility report and issue a removal order against the Permanent Resident and their
accompanying family members. Permanent Residents have a right to appeal this decision. If this is the situation you and your family find yourself,
please contact us immediately. Olalere Law Office may be able to help you.
For minors who may have lost their permanent residence status, Olalere Law Office may also be able to help them. Please contact us immediately.
Other
There are other situations that you can lose your permanent residence status (misrepresentation, criminal conviction etc). Whatever your situation
is, please contact us immediately. Olalere Law Office may be able to help you.
